The ER-WE-PA Davis Standard GmbH in Erkrath is a subsidiary of Davis Standard LLC.

As part of the Converting Systems Group, one of two divisions of the Davis-Standard Group, ER-WE-PA is responsible for extrusion coating, liquid coating, cast film and winding technology.

The Challenge: At a glance

ER-WE-PA – The Challenge

At Erkrath there are about 450 employees and pensioners with different specifications, that need to be paid for in form of salary or pension each month. Payroll accounting is among the most complex and sensitive business applications in companies. Legal, social security and tariff provisions place high demands.

So far, the ER-WE-PA used several non-SAP system solutions for human capital management. Master data had been maintained individually in each system and therefore multiple redundancies were given.

In addition to the high error rate due to multiple maintenance, there was also the problem of inconsistencies in the master data. The interfaces between the systems had to be called manually, which was really time consuming. Additional payment could not run automatically in the payroll, but needed to be transferred manually. An administrator was therefore forced to examine each situation. The various systems were in the way of an automatic data transfer.

Project-based time management in SAP

ER-WE-PA – The Project

With the help of SERKEM GmbH ER-WE-PA implemented the time management module with project-oriented CATS. This way integration with Payroll in SAP standard was made possible.

SAP time management as a new component

In payroll accounting time wage types like overtime, extra work or holiday bonuses are determined via the new component time management. Based on time data information time wage types provide necessary information for the calculation of employee’s gross pay.

Recording of working hours and activities directly in the SAP system

The Time Sheet CATS enables standardized, cross-application recording of employee working times and operations directly in the SAP system. All business processes that are associated with the employee’s activities can be managed – from employees’ payment to monitoring of project statuses or billing.

Employees can record data independently, which is a significant relief for the departments.

Working time attributes in SAP CATS

In addition to working times and activities, the CATS data include working time attributes. With the help of these the SAP system recognizes which SAP components need to use the captured working times by cross references to e.g. certain orders or networks (Logistics), cost assignments (Controlling) and attendance/absence (Human Ressource).

The target component continues processing the recorded data.

Thanks to SERKEM’s CATS implementation, hours at ER-WE-PA get recorded and automatically transferred to CO objects. Data only needs to be entered once, but can be used repeatedly.

Thanks to the integration in one system there are no interfaces that need to be called manually. For ER-WE-PA the SERKEM solution means less maintenance and time plus reduced error sources. Instead of an administrator the SAP system does the controlling and detects errors: if errors or notes in time management occur an automatic email is sent, if the attendance time of an employee is more than 10 hours the supervisor receives a note. Bonuses also get transferred automatically to payroll accounting and hours get forwarded via interfaces with time recording terminals directly into the system.
