Package optimization/case calculation directly in SAP

The optimal packaging of individual items and goods during the shipping process is a crucial aspect of warehouse logistics. Through case calculation, packages are optimally assigned to a parcel. Additionally, the associated packaging planning is carried out directly in SAP WM/EWM, allowing for early planning of the number and types of shipping handling units (HUs) likely to be needed in the outbound process.

At a glance

  • Detailed log’s/protocols of all packaging algorithms directly in SAP ensure complete transparency and traceability
  • The SAP EWM system determines which warehouse types have to be picked, so that an optimal and precise control of the picking capacity and conveyor technology capacity can be made possible.
  • Based on the case calculation, materials are packed together in the best possible way, taking into account:
    • Dimensions
    • Weight
    • Volume
    • Dangerous goods
    • Quantity
    • Material properties
  • Packaging planning takes packing bids into account: which materials always have to be packed together?
  • The packaging planning takes into account packing bans: which materials may never be packed together?
  • Heavyweight or lightweight materials are treated prioritized or not prioritized
  • The parameters for package optimization are freely selectable:
    • Total weight of the boxes to be formed
    • Cooled goods logics
    • Separated delivery
    • Standard packaging to the material
    • Pack heavyweight to heavyweight
    • Pack lightweight to lightweight
    • Material textures
    • Pack additional label for “standing” or “lying”
    • Transportation temperatures
  • Various packaging sizes are freely selectable
  • The same dangerous goods classes can be packed together
  • Different classes of dangerous goods are packed separately
  • It is possible to map interlaced HUs for small parts shipments
  • Packaging planning for delivery orders
  • Packaging planning for waves
  • Packaging planning for warehouse order creation
  • Then a direct pick HU and TA creation is possible
