Conveyor technology in SAP

Integration of conveyor technology directly in SAP and control out of the SAP standard!

The SERKEM solution in detail

Connection of conveyor technology in SAP (container conveyor technology, pallet conveyor technology)

Conveyance systems are an essential component of a warehouse or distribution center. Optimal utilization and precise control of material flow are crucial in these settings.

There are various ways to integrate conveyance systems with SAP, depending on the warehouse system (SAP WM/SAP EWM) and its architecture. With the help of the SERKEM template, the conveyance system can be customized and adapted to meet specific needs.

The most common connection of proprietary material flow computer (MFR) systems to SAP WM is via RFC or IDOCS. In this case, the conveyor technology is controlled by using a third-party material flow computer. SAP WM controls the container’s destinations, e.g. via the standard IDOCS (WMTORD, WMTOCO, WMCATO …). The MFR determines the optimized route to the transferred goals. The communication between the material flow computer and SAP WM takes place via the RFC or IDOC connections.

The SERKEM template for direct connection of the programmable logic controller (PLC) to SAP WM offers more efficient control of the conveyor technology. Communication takes place via telegrams which are generated in SAP WM and transferred directly to the corresponding UST/PLC via SAP PCo over a TCP/IP connection.

The material flow control takes place directly in SAP WM. This means that scanners, decision points, locks, lifters or scales can also be mapped and controlled directly in WM. The complete monitoring and control of the material flow takes place in the SAP system.

A proprietary MFR is no longer necessary!

If you want to implement SAP EWM or you are already using it, the MFS component can communicate directly with the lower-level or programmable logic controllers (UST/PLC) via telegrams. The communication is carried out via standardized telegrams (WT, WTCO, SCAN …). An advantage of this solution is that no MFR or third-party software is needed.

Using the SERKEM template for EWM/MFS connections, scanners, decision points, locks, lifters or scales can also be connected economically and directly via the MFS component. The control of the material flow takes place integrated in EWM, all movements are transparent. Weight and conformity tests are already stored and mapped in the template.

From SAP EWM version 9.4, the SAP PCo component is no longer required. The SAP EWM material flow control can communicate directly with the conveyor technology.

All versions can be covered with a SERKEM template. This contains ready-made functions and applications that facilitate the control of the conveyor technology and accelerate the implementation process.
The possibility of connecting a conveyor technology is independent of the type (for example, container conveyor technology or pallet conveyor technology) as well as the manufacturer.
