Paperless Picking in SAP
Warehouse-picking with pick-by-scan, pick-by-voice, pick-by-light and pick-by-vision as mobile picking methods
The SERKEM solution in detail
In order picking, the order picker or handler selects specific quantities from a provided total quantity based on orders. These orders may be either customer or production orders.
Time as a Central Factor in Picking
As with all warehouse processes, speed is a key factor in picking. Mobile or paperless picking, in particular, offers several advantages over picking with pick lists: the error rate is significantly reduced, and the pick rate increases. At the same time, optimizing the provision of goods or materials in goods receipt or goods issue accelerates the processes. The throughput in the warehouse is increased, which in turn leads to performance improvements across the entire company.

At a glance
As the latest and most innovative method of paperless picking, pick-by-vision combines the advantages of pick-by-voice and pick-by-light in one system.
The usage of voice identification makes the freehand handling of the system possible, while the visual notice in the glasses replaces the voice instructions of the system. The picker sees information which leads him through the order and warehouse step by step.
In addition, the data glasses can be extended with a camera as well as navigation functions.
If a high picking pace in the warehouse is significant, pick-by-light and put-to-light systems are used. For example during picking of small pieces, picking in production to material provision or the partition of a high quantity of goods to small shipping units.
Optical signals guide the picker by using pick-by-light to the storage box or to the order container. Displays at the shelves show the relevant information and confirm the picked quantity with an acknowledgment key.
At put-to-light the employee distributes the quantity of goods light-controlled to the different places.
Meanwhile, pick-by-voice is one of the most proven methods in logistics. The Picker wears a headset (earphone with microphone) during his work for the speaking-based communication between picker and picking system.
The procurement as well as the confirmation takes place over voice inputs.
At pick-by-scan the picker moves with mobile or forklift terminals for the mobile data collection through the warehouse. In most instances they have integrated barcode scanner or RFID-reading devices.
The MDE-device shows the picking list and functions as confirmation of the picked products or the input of error-quantities or null sets. All accountings happen in real-time or prompt in the SAP system depending on whether they are made online or offline.
