Robot Connection in SAP

Integrate robots directly into the SAP system and
control them via SAP Standard!

The SERKEM solution in detail

SAP Robot Connection

In the course of Industry 4.0 the automation of logistics is a central component. All the more important is a consistent communication between the used robotics and your SAP system. SERKEM helps you to connect all types of robots (palletizing robots, packaging robots, etc. – independent of the manufacturer) to your SAP system.

One major advantage of the direct robot connection in SAP is the low level of logic integration in the programmable logic controller/subordinated controller (PLC/UST). The logic only serves to execute the commands sent by SAP to the corresponding robot.

Robotik-Anbindung SAP

There are four different variants for connecting robotic technology to SAP:

  1. SAP LE-WM via SAP PCo (light blue path)
  2. SAP LE-WM directly to PLC/UST (grey path)
  3. SAP EWM via SAP PCo (dark blue path)
  4. SAP EWM directly to PLC/UST (orange path)
telegram traffic between the SAP system and robotics

In this variant, robot technology is controlled directly via the SAP component Plant Connectivity (PCo). The SAP WM system sends the telegrams which are received by PCo and then passed on to the coupled PLC. The telegrams trigger the robot movements on the subordinated controller (UST).

Similar to the first variant, telegrams are sent by the SAP system. Here the communication consists directly of SAP and the UST, which passes on the commands to the robot.

Similar to the variant ‘SAP LE-WM via SAP PCo’ telegrams from SAP EWM are sent to the subordinated controller via SAP PCo.

Since the SAP EWM Version 9.4, you can renounce the usage of SAP PCo and communicate directly between SAP EWM and PLC/ UST.

Robotik-Anbindung SAP

All variants of the robotics connection in SAP can be covered with a SERKEM template. This consists of precast functions and applications that facilitate the control of robotics and speed up the implementation process. Individual company-specific functions or special processes can additionally be installed.

The possibility of connecting a robot is both independent of the form (palletizing robots or similar) and the manufacturer.
